Why Telegram can’t translate a picture
The Translate button works on the text of a message. In a photo or a screenshot the words are part of the image, so for Telegram there is nothing to translate. That is why a screenshot of a Chinese app, a photo of a German letter or a picture of a Japanese menu comes through untouched.
The bot does the missing step. It reads the text in the picture, the way a scanner would, and translates it in the same pass. You get plain text back, so you can copy it, search it or forward it.
How to translate a photo in Telegram
It takes the same few taps on a phone or on a computer.
- Open the bot and tap Start.
- Send the picture: from the gallery, straight from the camera, or forward it from any chat or channel.
- Tap the language you want to read it in.
- Read, copy or forward the translation. To see the same picture in another language, just tap another language.
What gives the best result
The bot copes with most real-life pictures, but a few habits help it read every word.
- Keep the text sharp and the right way up; a slight angle is fine.
- Crop to the part you need when a picture mixes several texts.
- Several pictures? Send them as one album and pick the language once.
- Clear handwriting usually works; very small print on a far-away sign may not.
Screenshots from any app
Many things you want translated are not in Telegram at all: a foreign website, an app in another language, a game, an error message, a chat in another messenger. Take a screenshot, send it to the bot and read the translation. It is often faster than copying the text out of the other app, and it works where copying is impossible.

Questions
Can Telegram translate text in images by itself?
No. Telegram’s built-in translation works only on the text of messages. For text inside photos, screenshots and pictures you need a bot like this one.
Which languages can it read in a photo?
It reads all the major scripts, including Latin, Cyrillic, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Devanagari, and translates into any of 86 languages.
Is the layout of the text kept?
Line breaks and lists are kept, so a menu still reads as a menu. The result is plain text, not an edited copy of the picture.
Can I translate a photo from a channel?
Yes. Forward the post with the picture to the bot, or save the picture and send it. Both work the same way.
Can I send several photos at once?
Yes. Send them as one album, choose the language once, and the bot translates every picture; each photo counts as one translation.
What if there is no text in the picture?
The bot tells you it found no text, and that attempt does not count against your translations.
