The Translate button or the bot?
Telegram can translate text messages on its own. Here is what each option covers, so you can pick the right tool for the job.

A translator that lives in your chat list
Most of what we fail to read arrives in Telegram anyway: a post in a foreign channel, a neighbourhood chat after a move, a supplier writing in Chinese, a screenshot a friend sent from another app. Switching to a translation app for each of them breaks the conversation.
The bot sits next to your other chats. Forward it the message, or send the picture, and read the translation a few seconds later without leaving Telegram. It works in every Telegram app, on the phone, on the desktop and in the browser.

Why the photos matter
Telegram’s own Translate button handles text messages, but it cannot see text that is part of an image. Menus, signs, product labels, error messages and screenshots of other apps stay untranslated. That is exactly what the bot is built for: it reads the text in the picture and translates it in one step, keeping the line breaks so a list still looks like a list.
Translations are made by an AI model that reads the whole message rather than word by word, so idioms, names and numbers come out the way a person would write them. Read more about translating photos in Telegram.

Which languages does it translate into?
86 languages, from English, Spanish and Arabic to Amharic, Uzbek and Burmese. The source language is detected automatically.
Can it translate the text in a photo or a screenshot?
Yes, that is its main job. Send the picture as a photo, pick a language, and the bot returns the translated text. A sharp picture with the text the right way up gives the best result.
Do I need to install anything?
No. The bot runs inside Telegram, so it works on Android, iPhone, Windows, macOS, Linux and Telegram Web. Open @world_translate_bot and tap Start.
Can it translate PDF and Word files?
Yes. Send a PDF, DOCX or TXT file, pick a language, and get the translation in the chat or as a file. Each PDF page counts as one translation.
Does it work in group chats?
Yes. Add the bot to the group and reply /tr to any message: the translation appears under it, in your language. Only the person who asks is charged, and the bot needs no admin rights.
What happens to what I send?
Your message is kept for up to seven days, so you can pick another language for it later, and then deleted. It is sent to an AI translation service to be translated and is not used for anything else.
